The Battle Mountain High School junior varsity football team continued its hot start to the season with a 41-16 win over Spring Creek this past Thursday night. The Longhorns are now 3-0 on the season.
Sophomore quarterback Gabe Naveran had a stellar night behind center, throwing for 307 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for 24 yards.
Naveran’s favorite target on the night was Mason Fuller, who had 206 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Miles Piramide caught the other touchdowns and had 49 receiving yards. Deandre Powell and Reese Artz each had 25 receiving yards and Bobby Kester had one catch for four yards.
Kade Quintana led the rushing attack with 49 yards, Ryan Ostler added 14 and Kester had one carry for five yards and a touchdown. Erik Martinez also recovered a fumble for a touchdown, to go with a team-high 28 tackles.
On the defensive side of the ball, Quintana (13), Mason Chopp (12) and Artz (12) reached double figures in tackles. Fabian Figueroa and Fuller had eight apiece, Chris Figueroa and Powell seven each and Peyton Ayers and Jose Figueroa had six and four tackles, respectively.
Jace Clark, Kester and Ostler had three tackles apiece and Marcus Jury and Treyor Delgado had one tackle each.
Battle Mountain is back on the field on Friday, Sept. 25, with a road trip to Idaho to play American Falls at 4 p.m.
After taking a week off and playing the Hug JV the week before, the Battle Mountain varsity football team travels to Silver Stage on Saturday for an 11 a.m. kickoff in a Division III North match-up.
