The Battle Mountain High School JV football team had little trouble to start its season, beating White Pine 41-0 on Friday afternoon in Battle Mountain.

The contest featured a running clock and was played with nine players on both sides. The Bobcats fielded just 10 players.

The Longhorns jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter. Kade Quintana got the scoring started with a 21-yard run on the first play of the game for Battle Mountain.

The second time, the Longhorns touched the ball on offense, Gabe Naveran hit Reese Artz for a 25-yard touchdown pass and a 14-0 lead. Battle Mountain tacked on six more points in the first quarter on a 9-yard run by Naveran.

Quintana threw his second touchdown pass of the night, early in the second quarter when he connected with Peyton Ayers on a 9-yard pass.

The special teams got in the act as well, with Bobby Kester scoring on a 38-yard punt return to give Battle Mountain a 34-0 advantage at halftime.

The Longhorns closed out the scoring in the second half, with an 81-yards run by Quintana. The freshman finished with 92 yards on the ground and two touchdowns.

On the defensive side of the ball, Jessie Edgar and Trayer Delgado each had eight tackles. Mason Chopp had seven tackles.

Eric Martinez had six, Damien Diaz, Jose Figueroa and Fabien Figueroa four each and Chris Figueroa, Quintana, Kester and Naveran had three tackles apiece.

Battle Mountain travels to Lovelock on Friday to play Pershing County at 4:30 p.m.
