The Battle Mountain High School junior varsity football team took a step up in competition last Thursday in Elko, with the same result it has been providing all year.
The Longhorns kept their winning ways going, defeating the Indians 29-16.
Sophomore quarterback Gabe Naveran threw for 256 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another 125 and one touchdown against the Division I-A school.
Bobby Kester was Naveran’s favorite receiver on the night with 146 yards and one touchdown. Miles Piramide caught two touchdowns and had 41 yards receiving. Reese Artz had 46 yards receiving, Mason Fuller 21 and Peyton Ayers two.
Ayers added 31 yards on the ground and Kester seven.
Three Longhorns reached double figures in tackles, led by Erik Martinez with 16.
Ryan Ostler and Artz had 12 and 10 tackles, respectively. Fuller and Chris Figueroa had nine each, Kester seven, Mason Chopp six, Naveran five, Jesse Edgar four, Ayers three, Jace Clark two and Daimean Diaz, Marcus Jury and Piramide had one tackle each.
Battle Mountain closes out the season tonight at West Wendover beginning at 5 p.m.
