The Lowry High School girls soccer team split a pair of games last weekend, dropping a 3-0 decision to South Tahoe on Thursday, Oct. 15, in Winnemucca. The Lady Bucks bounced back on Saturday to defeat Dayton 2-0 on the Dust Devils’ home turf.
Lady Bucks fall to Vikings
Lowry had the tall task of hosting the defending Division I-A state champions, and winners of three of the last four titles. South Tahoe used first half goals from Annie Brejc and Zoe D’Angelo to lead 2-0 at halftime. The Lady Bucks had their chances on the offensive end, but could not get a ball in the net.
South Tahoe kept its two-goal advantage until the 74th minute, when Brejc scored her second goal of the night to secure the victory for the Vikings. Lowry had six shots on goal, including two each from Kenadee Jeppsen and Audrey Snow. Caitlynn Cooper and Hailey Hinkle each had a shot on goal.
Lowry shuts out Dayton
Lowry got back on the winning track in Dayton, despite playing in miserable conditions.
“It was cold, and it rained the entire match,” said LHS coach Melanie Rasor. “It was hard for either team to do anything.”
The Lady Bucks scored one goal in each half to pick up the win. Shelby Garrison and Snow netted the shots. Lowry had 19 shots in the game, including 11 on goal. Snow had three shots on goal and Bailey Sapien, Cooper and Garrison each had two.
Lindsey Pate started in goal for Lowry, but also saw time on the field.
Lowry currently sits in fifth place in the Division I-A North standings at 6-5-2 and 8-6-2 overall. Truckee leads the league at 11-1, South Tahoe is second at 10-1-1 and Sparks is third at 8-4. The top six teams advance to the regional championships in Elko On Nov. 5-7. Churchill County 6-4-2 is fourth and Spring Creek (5-8) is sixth. If the playoff began today, Lowry would take on Churchill County. The Lady Bucks have beaten and tied the Greenwave this season.
Lowry traveled to Spring Creek on Wednesday and lost 3-2. The Lady Bucks are back home Tuesday to host Elko at 6 p.m.
