The Lowry High School girls golf team sits in second place after the first day of the NIAA Division I-A State Championships in Boulder City.
Faith Lutheran is the runaway leader with a score of 324. Lowry and Clark are tied for second at 394, but since the Lady Bucks fifth golfer has a better score than Clark’s, Lowry earns the tiebreaker over the Chargers.
Elko is fourth at 406 and Spring Creek (438) and Boulder City (439) round out the standings.
Freshman Tatyana Carlson is in ninth place after a round of 89. Elise Rose was the only other Buckaroo to break 100, at 98, and she is in 15th place. Veronica Jones carded a 103 for 17th place and Savanna Cox shot 105 to tie for 18th. Brooklyn Backus shot 111 and Kaity Sample 117.
Boulder City’s Lani Potter leads after day one with a 2-over par 74, and Clark’s Grace Kang is second at 75. Faith Lutheran’s Morgan Goldstein and Brittany Evans are tied for third at 77, and Faith Lutheran’s Sydney Smith is fifth at 79.
The final 18 holes were played on Thursday afternoon and results were not available at press time.
