The fourth annual Buster Miller Memorial Junior Rodeo was held on Sept. 19 at the Lander County Livestock Events Center. This year, there were 70 contestants from surrounding areas, ages 0-13, who thoroughly enjoyed the day competing in several events.

Events included dummy roping, barrels, potato race, goat un-decorating, goat tying, figure 8, keyhole, flag race, breakaway and team roping. Many prizes were awarded in each age group including buckles, breast collars, headstalls, ropes and other tack related items to each age group to all-around, reserve all-around and first through fifth place cowboys and cowgirls.

Miller was a man with great integrity and horsemanship which is why the association decided to present character awards in his memory. This year, the Buster Miller Character recipients were Brooke Filippini and Riley Roderick.

These contestants showed great horsemanship as well as great attitudes toward others throughout the rodeo. The Battle Mountain Junior Rodeo Association is grateful to this community and all who support such a great event for our youth.
