The Battle Mountain High School junior varsity football team continued its dominant season with a 36-24 victory over Pershing County on Friday in Battle Mountain. It was the second win of the year for the Longhorns over the Mustangs.
Battle Mountain jumped out to an early lead and were never challenged. Gabe Naveran threw for 186 yards and three touchdowns and the sophomore ran for 19 more yards and a touchdown. In addition, he had an interception on defense.
Eight different Battle Mountain players caught a pass, with Miles Piramide leading the way with 67 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Bobby Kester had just 27 receiving yards, but two touchdowns. Marcus Jury, Mason Fuller, Jose Figueroa, Peyton Ayers, Ryan Ostler and Naveran each caught a pass.
Ayers and Kester ran for 18 and 17 yards, respectively, with Kester scoring a touchdown.
Erik Martinez was the star on defense with 21 tackles and two fumble recoveries. Fuller and Ayers had 11 and 10 tackles, respectively, while Ostler had nine.
Mason Chopp, Jace Clark, Jury and Kester had seven tackles apiece, and Trayer Delgado, Chris Figueroa and Piramide had four tackles each. Jose Figueroa had three tackles and Damean Diaz, Daegan McClary and Chris Taylor each had one.
Battle Mountain travels to Elko on Thursday to play the Indians at 5 p.m.
