Battle Mountain golfers finish third at state championships

Davis, Squires tie for 12th place

The Battle Mountain High School girls golf team turned in a third-place finish at the NIAA State Girls Division III Championships last week at White Pine Golf Course in Carson City.

Incline ran away with the title, shooting 802 over two days of play. West Wendover was second at 919 and the Lady Longhorns (984) were third. Yerington (1,117) and Tonopah (1,467) rounded out the top five.

West Wendover’s Sarah Isaacs won the individual championship, with equal rounds of 94 for a two-day total of 188. Incline’s Kennedy Cohn was the runner-up for the second consecutive season at 190. She had rounds of 93 and 97.

Wells’ Kirsten Alton (193) and Kaitlyn Alton (195) were third and fourth, respectively, and Incline’s Christine Schwartz was fifth at 199.

Battle Mountain’s Kykee Squires and Kennedie Davis tied for 12th, with scores of 221. Squires had rounds of 117 and 110, while Davis shot 103 and 124.

Kali Kester (140-123-263) finished 18th and Lynzee Devlin (130-137-267) placed 19th.

“We had kind of a bad disappointing tournament,”said BMHS coach Paul Tremayne. “The girls just did not have their best two days. We felt we had a chance to place 2nd. Had a good season, will miss the senior girls.”
