Nutcracker ballet casting next week in Winnemucca

First position! Plié! À terre! Do your kids know these terms? If not, it doesn’t matter much, as no experience is necessary for local children to get involved with this year’s production of The Nutcracker.

The Northern Nevada Arts Council is sponsoring the famous ballet and are looking for youngsters to fill dozens of parts throughout the cast. The Reno Dance Company will be performing the major roles, NNAC representative Leann Barta said.

“We’re hoping to make this an annual event,” she added.

Barta said that auditions will be held for boys and girls on Monday, Oct. 19 at the Winnemucca Grammar School gym and emphasized that no dance experience is necessary. Auditions will be held at 4 p.m. for boys and girls aged 6-9; 5:15 p.m. for ages 10-12; 6:30 p.m. for ages 13-15 and 7:45 p.m. for 16 and up.

Barta said that those who are cast in roles must be available for rehearsals the entire week of Monday, Nov. 16 through Friday, Nov. 20. Rehearsals will be from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m., but different age groups will rehearse at different times within that span with the younger children first.

Cast members must also be available all day Saturday, Nov. 21 for dress rehearsal in the morning and two performances at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
