If you blinked you may have missed it.
The Lowry High School volleyball team made quick work of Sparks on Tuesday night, defeating the Railroaders 25-6, 25-15 and 25-14 to improve to 8-2 in the Division I-A North and 17-7 overall.
βIt was a good opportunity for the youngetr kids to play,β said LHS coach Megan Allen. βI let them play most of the match. They need to learn to play together. Sparks has improved quite a bit from where they were.β
With its starting six on the floor, Lowry dominated the first set, as Sparks did not score a point on its own. The Lady Bucks had three service errors and hit three other balls out of bounds.
The Lady Bucks built a 19-2 lead in the opening set, on the strength four kills and tip by Hannah Hillyer. Madison Montero was strong at the net, as well with three kills. A 13-0 run by Lowry was ended on a service error. Montero and Hillyer finished off the set with the final three points, which included an ace by Montero and a tip and ace by Hillyer.
The Lady Bucks scored five of the first seven points of the second set, aided by kills by Jadyn Eastman and Chelsea Herrera. The Railroaders answered back with three consecutive points, but it was all Lowry after that.
An ace by Alyssa Kuskie put the Lady Bucks up for good and the hitting of Aimee Brandon, Montero and Hillyer proved to be too much for the Railroaders.
Sparks hung around in the third set, and led 11-10 at one time before Lowry puled away. A kill and ace by Kepa Bengochea put the Lady Bucks in front 13-11.
Lowry ended the match on a 15-3 run, which included three kills and a tip from Brandon. A kill by Montero and an ace from Brooklyn Waller closed the match out.
Lowry disposes of Churchill County
Lowry played host to Churchill County this past Saturday and defeated the Greenwave in four sets.
The Lady Bucks dominated the first set, winning 25-8, but the Greenwave battled back to win the second set 25-20. Lowry got back on the winning track, taking the third and fourth sets 25-17 and 25-20, respectively.
With the victory, Lowry was able to complete the season sweep of Churchill County.
Lowry hosted South Tahoe on Thursday night and results were not available at press time. The Lady Bucks are back home Saturday yo take on Dayton at noon. The Dust Devils have beaten the Lady Bucks twice this year and are tied for second in the Division I-A North with the Lady Bucks.
