If you take away the first tournament of the season, the Lowry High School girls golf team has been unbeatable in the Division I-A North.

That streak continued last Thursday in Winnemucca, as the Lady Bucks used their home course advantage to win their sixth consecutive tournament, and clinch the Division I-A North regional championship.

Lowry shot a season-best 373 to win the tournament by 28 strokes. Elko (401) was second and Spring Creek (402) placed third. All three teams have qualified for the state championships in Boulder City. Fernley finished fourth at 419 and Dayton (455) and Churchill County (467) were fifth and sixth, respectively.

Lowry freshman Tatyana Carlson shot a season-best 80 to finish second overall. She is currently fourth in scoring average in the Division I-A North.

Fernley’s Brittany Evans carded a 3-over par 75 to win low medalist honors. Spring Creek’s Mikal Jerman (82) was third. Evans and Jerman are first and second, respectively, in the league standings.

Brooklyn Backus shot her best score of the year, a 92, to place fifth overall. Backus is sixth in the Division I-A North scoring average.

Elise Rose was the third Lady Buckaroo to break 100, as she shot 99. Rose, a junior, is third in the league scoring average at 89.4.

Savanna Cox had the last kept score for the team total with a 102. Veronica Jones shot a 105 and Kaity Sample a 108.

Lowry’s entire team played on the day, with Hannah Havens shooting an 118 and Amber Allen a 156.

Lowry has clinched the Division I-A North crown with 45 points. Elko is second at 38 and Spring Creek (34) is third. With just one tournament left, no other school can jump into the top three.

The league doesn’t have a regional championship tournament and the three state championship berths are based on the regular season standings.

With one week left, Fernley’s Evans and Courtney Dunn, along with Dayton’s Kassandra Acotsa, Churchill County’s Sarah Evans and South Tahoe’s Courtney Cronwell would qualify for state as individuals.

Faith Lutheran and Clark are the top two teams in the Southern I-A. Thier regional tournament is on Thursday.

The 2015 state championships will take place in Boulder City on Wednesday, Oct. 21, and Thursday, Oct. 22, on the Eldorado-Deesrt Hawk course.
