Rotary ‘Build Up Our Food Bank’ event is Saturday

The Winnemucca Rotary Club’s “Build up Our Food Bank” event is challenging locals to create a three-dimensional piece of artwork with cans, boxes and packages of food.

On Saturday, Oct. 10, the works will be on display at the Kirk Day Exhibit Hall at the Winnemucca Events Complex for all to see.

The public is invited to attend and judge these unique pieces of art for themselves. How will the voting work? The public votes with their dollars, explains Rotary member and event coordinator Amy Edwards.

“Everyone is invited to come see the creations and put cash in their favorite artist’s box,” she said. One dollar equals one vote, and the can art with the most dollars wins the “People’s Choice Award” glory. All the funds raised during the event will go directly to the food bank as well, Edwards explains.

The entries will also be judged by a panel of local dignitaries. Prizes will be awarded for constructions made using the can’s original labels and with labels covered by paper.

The Build Up Our Food Bank event will be open Saturday, Oct. 10 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. for the public to view.
