The McDermitt High School volleyball team was busy last weekend with league matches in Owyhee and a one-day tournament in Crane, Ore.
The Lady Bulldogs finished second in the tournament to Crane, falling in the championship 25-11 and 25-16.
“We came out strong in the first set versus Crane, but having lost a tough-fought match the day before, we couldn’t pull out the win losing a close match,” said MHS coach Danielle Wilson.
McDermitt played Crane earlier in the day in the tournament, and lost 25-14 and 25-17. McDermitt picked up two wins and two ties, during the long day of play. The Lady Bulldogs defeated Harper/Huntington and Prairie City and tied Prairie City and Dayville Monument.
“We regrouped and started out strong working our way back into the finals to play an athletic Crane team,” Wilson said. “The other teams were a challenge for us but the ladies stayed positive and rallied back on some occasions to win. It was a fun tournament. The Oregon referee’s were impressed with this our team, stating they matured and they were some hard hitters.”
McDermitt falls to Owyhee
McDermitt began its long weekend, with a Division IV East doubleheader at Owyhee. The Lady Bulldogs came up sort against their league rivals. McDermitt suffered a rough start with an injury before the match.
“We had a player injure her ankle during warm up and she didn’t want to give up so we played her anyway,” Wilson said. “During the match, she began to hurt, but she was tough and I liked her attitude to keep going.”
McDermitt is celebrating their homecoming this week and hosts Wells today at 3 p.m.
