The Lowry High School softball team was well recognized for its regular-season play in the Division I-A North this season.
The Lady Bucks placed nine of their players on the three respective all-league teams. Lowry had four players chosen to the first team, including Shelby McKinnon, Kylee McClellan, Alyssa Jones and Alyssa Dendary.
McKinnon batted .504 this season with 58 hits and 59 runs scored. She had nine home runs and 51 RBI. The junior also stole 27-of-32 bases this spring. She will be attending the College of Southern Idaho next year.
McClellan led the Lady Bucks with a .561 batting average to go with 55 hits. The senior drove in 50 runs, hit four home runs and a team-high 19 doubles. McClellan will play for Clark College in Washington next year.
Jones batted .385 with 35 hits, 37 runs scored and she had 32 RBI. Dendary picked up her honor for pitching, where she led Lowry in wins with 14. The senior was 14-5 on the season with a 4.78 ERA. She hit .3111 with 32 hits, 42 runs scored, 28 RBI and four home runs.
Fernley’s Diane Chapin was named the Coach of the Year and Fernley’s Serena Olson was chosen as the Player of the Year.
The remainder of the first included Fernley’s Mercedes Rothwell, Caitlin Kindred and Courtney Dunn, Churchill County’s Megan McCormick, Ali Tedford, Kayla Buckmaster and Paige Thorn, Sparks’ Marissa Coleman and South Tahoe’s Kendra Conrad.
McKinnon and McClellan were also named to the all-state team.
The Lady Bucks’ Alyssa Kuskie and Stevie DeStout, both freshmen, were named to the second team. DeStout hit .434 on the season with 36 hits, 29 RBI and two home runs and Kuskie batted .355 with 33 hits, 30 runs scored and 27 RBI.
They were joined by Elko’s Lexi Freitag, Desirae Danner and Megan Finlayson, Fernley’s Kailey Daggitt, Shandell Gemmell and Hailee Edgar Churchill County’s Izzy Thomas and Kalyn Huckaby, Spring Creek’s Ashley Bodin and Sparks’ Jocelyn Vasquez.
Lowry’s Allison Barron, Caitlynn Cooper and Alana Miller were named to the honorable mention team. That group was comprised of Elko’s ShayDea Mead and Madi Harris, Fernley’s Taelyne Phillips and Brooke Chapin, Churchill County’s Hannah Frank, Ashlie Alvarez and Caitlyn Welch, Spring Creek’s Alex Richardson, Kathy Macdiarmid and Rashay Williams, Truckee’s Katie Fisher, Tori Simpson, Taylor Stevens and Sylvia Soto, South Tahoe’s Drue Chapman and Haley Crowson. Sparks’ Angelica Ruiz, Madison Franco and Sarah Hanson and Dayton’s Mallory Dickenson, Briana Hill and Caitlyn Goodfellow.
Lowry finished the year at 23-8 overall and was 19-5 in the Division I-A North.
The Lady Bucks lost in the elimination game of the regional tournament to Churchill County 10-9 at Dayton High School.
