Dear Editor:
Please find attached the principles of an effective conservation agency. This was published in the Elko Daily Free Press some years ago. It was submitted by Mary Wright, Elko.
Since the inception of the U.S. Grazing Service in 1935 and Director Richard Rutledge’s Administrative Principles, the attitude of the government agencies, that administer grazing, have gone rogue. They have shoved their bureaucratic policies down our throats. In doing so, our resources, the wildlife populations and the livestock industry have been on the decline.
The public land rancher is near extinction. It will be an interesting poker hand to see the play between the Sage chicken and the wild horses and burros. Which one will win? With the rancher out of the game, there will be no resource to protect or improve. With the BLM’s “mismanagement” of resources, the landscape will be back to what it was when the first explorers came through. They had to eat their horses and oxen because of lack of game and grass.
The public land rancher is being handed retirement papers, with no government benefits. Stick around multiple users of the public lands, you are next. Welcome to my world!
Sincerely,
Eddyann Filippini
