1954~2015

Mike Key was born in Walla Walla Washington on February 6, 1954 to Bob Key and Rose Mary Whipple Key.

Mike was preceded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by his wife Julie Key, His brother Drue Key, sister Kelly Griggs and children Amanda Alexander, Paul Key, Katie Shiftley, Shane Anderson, Chance Anderson and Jake Anderson. As well as grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and his favorite dog Bailey.

After he was born his family moved from California to Orovada, Nevada. From day one Mike know that Orovada was his home and farming was his calling.

Mike was a fun loving, hard working, and knowledge seeking man. He went through grade school in Orovada, high school in McDermitt where he excelled in football and track. He then attended Blue Mountain College in Pendleton, Oregon. After college he returned to Orovada to join his Dad and brother in their family farming operation, Key Farms. A few years later Mike and his brother formed Key Brothers Farming Operation. He loved farming and worked hard at it, and over the years the three of them built an amazing farming operation.

Mikes desire to succeed and be the best would eventually take its toll. Those of us that have seen Mike’s farm, and have seen the results of his work, can only stand in awe.

Mike lost his fight on May 9, 2015. He had fought a tough battle since his stroke nine years ago, but he never gave up on his dream of being a great farmer. He know when he left us that it was time to go and farm in heaven without his disabilities. Can you imagine how good those fields in Heaven are looking now?

Mike will be missed.

Funeral services for Mike were held at the Orovada Community Hall on May 13, 2015 with burial in the Orovada Cemetery.
