Mary was born to Joe and Josephine Erquiaga on September 27, 1933 in Denio, Nevada. She was the tenth of 13 children. She attended grammar school in a one room school house while growing up and working the ranch. She attended the only public boarding school in the U.S. in Crane, Oregon. Crane Union High School was featured in Life Magazine during her time as a student. Upon graduation, she moved to Winnemucca, Nevada and became a telephone operator.
She married Glenn Vernon Davis on January 17, 1953. They moved to Reno where she was an active housewife and was involved in her Catholic Faith, volunteer work, and outdoor activities including camping, fishing, and hunting. The family moved to Carson City in 1968. She was an excellent baker and was always being asked to bring her fabulous rolls or pies to a variety of functions. For the past 23 years, she participated and led an exercise class at the Carson Senior Center. She was also a member of the women’s society at Saint Teresa of Avila.
Mary was predeceased by her son Paul Joseph Davis on January 16, 1962 and her husband Glenn on June 25, 1991. She is survived by her daughter Dorette (Marco) Caldana, son Michael (Cheryl) Davis, and their two children Micah and Andrea Davis as well as a multitude of extended family members.
A mass will be held at Saint Teresa of Avila in Carson City on July 13, 2015 at 10:30 am. Following her celebration of life, a reception will be held at the church.
