Lemaire headed to Iowa next week for National Junior High Finals Rodeo

Battle Mountain’s Emma Lemaire has qualified for the National Junior High School Rodeo Finals, to be held June 21-27 in Des Moines, Iowa.

She will be traveling with the rest of the Nevada contingent to compete in the 11th annual event. She is a sixth-grade student at Eleanor Lemaire Elementary School.

Lemaire qualified in ribbon roping with Humboldt County partner Cade Bell. The duo finished fourth in the season-long standings.

Finishing in the top four of each events qualifies that person for the national finals.

Featuring roughly 1,000 contestants from 42 states, five Canadian provinces and Australia, the NJHFR is the world’s largest junior high rodeo. In addition to competing for more than $75,000 in prizes, NJHFR contestants will also be vying for more than $100,000 in college scholarships and the chance to be named a National Junior High School Rodeo national champion.

To earn this title, contestants must finish in the top 20 based on their combined times/scores in the first two rounds to advance to the final round on the last day of the event. National champions will then be determined based on their three-round combined times/scores.

Again this year, the championship performance will be televised nationally as part of the Cinch High School Rodeo Tour telecast on RFD-TV.

Live broadcasts of each performance will air online at HHSRATV.com. Performance times are 5 p.m. on June 21 and 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day thereafter.

Along with great rodeo competition and the chance to meet new friends from around the world, contestants have the opportunity to enjoy shooting sports, volleyball, tug-of-war, dances, family-oriented activities, church serviced sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Cowboys, shopping at the trade show and visiting area attractions as Des Moines hosts the event for the second time.
