Obituary: Karl W. Hornbarger

5/24/61 – 6/10/15

Fish rest peacefully in their lakes and geese snuggle into their nests today because one of their great nemeses has gone beyond the pale.

Karl was born in Winnemucca to William K. and Ethel E. Hornbarger and spent his youth there graduating from Lowry High School. After casting about for a vocation Karl hooked up with Barrick Gold, working on the “best drill and shovel crew” in the country. He was employed there for 25 years until he was snagged by brain cancer.

He enjoyed spending his time outdoors, either with friends or alone, and loved to hunt and fish.

Karl was preceded in death by his father, sisters Rose Mary Wright and Barbara Wilson, and brothers Leonard and Michael. He is survived by his mother, brother Bill (Tonette) Hornbarger, of Winnemucca, and sister Frances (Herschel) Williams of Las Vegas.

In keeping with Karl’s desire to leave a small wake, no services are planned. Instead, next time you catch a lunker, hold it up for Karl to see, for that is what he truly loved.
