Wes Farnsworth, 84, of Sparks, NV, died peacefully at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Reno, NV, on Sunday May 17, 2015, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Ely, NV, August 31, 1930, to Harold and Myrtle (Robinson). Wes served in the US Air Force during the Korean War at Nellis Air Force Base as a staff sergeant and crew chief on F-80 and F-86 aircraft from 1950-1954. He set a record achieving the highest service hours maintaining an aircraft which is still unbeaten today.
Wes married Barbara Duval, of Lund, NV, on August 30, 1954, and remained married to her until her death August 11, 1997.
After leaving the Air Force, Wes worked in construction and mining as a Detroit Diesel mechanic and was considered one of the best in his field for 47 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the “big blue Nevada sky”. Although he traveled and lived in many states, he always considered Nevada his home. He is probably best known for his warm “hello”, a “what can I do for you?”, a firm handshake and an immense knowledge of Nevada and diesel engines. As a maintenance man and repairman, he traveled to mines, ranches, and businesses throughout the state, giving him an unmatched knowledge of Nevada’s geography and people.
He is survived by his sister Ellen McIntosh and brother Clyde (Suzan) as well as his four sons and their families; Ray (Joyce) and sons Anthony and Adam. Lane (Melissa) and daughter Shannon and son Wesley. Lonnie (Ronda) and son Jory (currently serving in the US Air Force) and daughter Barbara Nicole. Shaun (Rick Valentine).
