A favorite pastime in Nevada involves leaving the asphalt behind. Offroad adventuring is a versatile activity that can be done with any type of vehicle, including both four-wheeled and two-wheeled varieties.
Every community has their popular offroading areas, with varying levels of difficulty. If you’re looking for good trails, just ask the locals.
Nevada offers many types of terrain to suit your tastes—anything from wide open sand dunes and playas to narrow mountain trails full of rocky obstacles.
Getting lost, finding new places and testing the limits of your vehicle (and passengers!) is the point of offroading, and it is at it’s best when done responsibly.
Don’t leave established trails, but also avoid going through gates or driving trails that are marked as private property.
Be sure to leave a rough itinerary with someone you trust or at least let someone else know where you are going.
When traveling in a group, be sure to have an alternative way to communicate between vehicles—oftentimes you will be far from cell signal! A CB or two-way radio is highly recommended.
Winches are handy to have during group travel, but if you get stuck while traveling alone you’ll have to use another method to free yourself (unless you are lucky enough to get stuck near a tree!).
