WJHS girls basketball teams to hold open gym

The Winnemucca Junior High School seventh and eighth-grade girls basketball teams will be holding open gyms beginning on Wednesday, July 15, from 6 p.m.— 8 p.m. in the gym a the junior high. There will be open gyms on July 22 and July 29 as well starting at the same time.

The seventh and eighth-grade teams will split up in August. Girls entering the seventh grade will have open gyms on Aug. 4, 6, 11, 13, 18 and 20, from noon— 2 p.m.

The eight graders will do their open gyms on Aug. 5 and 12 from 6 p.m.— 8 p.m. Open gyms continue for eighth graders from Aug 17-21 from 8 a.m.— 10 a.m.

There will be a parent meeting of students wishing to try out with WJHS athletic director Jonathan Reynolds on Thursday, Aug. 20, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Players interested in trying out for the team are encouraged to come, as this will be a time to work on their skills. All students trying out for basketball must have a physical completed before tryouts are held.

The physical is good for all sports for both years at WJHS. A player will not need another physical completed unless she is injured and placed on a medical excuse by a doctor.

Once a physical has been completed by a doctor, it can be returned to the office at WJHS.

Tryouts for the respective teams will be on Monday, Aug. 24. Eight-grade tryouts are 8 a.m.— 10 a.m. and seventh-graders go from 10 a.m.— noon. Tryouts continue on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at the same times.

Paperwork can be picked up from the main office and must be completed and turned in to coaches prior to tryouts on Aug. 24.
