The Winnemucca 11-12 Little League All-Stars were eliminated from the District 3 Tournament on on Monday morning in Hawthorne with an 8-3 loss to Silverada (Dayton).
Silverada never trailed, scoring three runs in the top of the first inniung.
Winnemucca cut the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the first, but got no closer. Anthony Hemp and Caleb Harmon scored runs for Winnemucca in the frame.
Silverada extended its advantage in the top of third inning with four runs to lead 7-2.
Winnemucca scored once in the bottom of the fourth inning, but got no closer as Silverada added an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning,
Silverada plays High Desert (Fernley) today at 9 a.m. Silverada needs to win to force a second title game on Wednesday at 9 a.m. If High Desert wins on Tuesday they advance to the state tournament in Las Vegas later this month.
In its opening game last Wednesday, Winnemucca beat host Hawthorne 10-0 in five innings. Winnemucca pulled away with three runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth. Sam Long earned the win, entering in the second inning for Michael Casalez. Colton VonAspern and Dominick Kelely each had two hits and Klay Garner scored three runs. Kelley also scored two runs
Winnemucca met up with Ruby Mountain (Spring Creek) on Thursday and won 7-2. Harmon hit two home runs and Tristen Schmittel also hit a homer in the victory. Sean Herrera earned the win in two innings of work. He allowed two runs on five hits and struck six.
Garner and Casalez combined for four scoreless innings in relief.
In addition, Casalez notched two hits, including a double.
Winnemucca led 3-2 after two innings, but broke the game open with three runs in the third inning.
Winnemucca took on High Desert on Sunday morning and both teams provided a pitching gem. Winnemucca grabbed a 1-0 advantage in the top of the first inning when Hemp singled and scored. That turned out to be all the offense for Winnemucca.
Casalez held High Desert scoreless for five innings, but High Desert scored a single run in the sixth to tie the game. The Fernley squad added another run in the seventh inning to grab the 2-1 victory.
Wyatt Sakurada, Hemp and Casalez each had one hit.
