On August 16, 2015 Douglas (Bud) Brooks passed away at his ranch in Lovelock, Nevada at the age of 87. He was comforted to the end with his loving wife, Ruth, at his side.
Douglas Vernon Brooks was born in Anoka, Minnesota on August 12, 1928 to his father Richard V. Brooks and mother Ruth L. Kottke. He traveled to Nevada where he attended University of Nevada Reno for his degree and played football for UNR. After graduating from UNR, Bud’s 40 year career of being a teacher as well as a football/wrestling coach took him to Southern California and Carson City, Nevada. Bud also served his country in the United Stated Marines where he was joined by his wife, Ruth Brooks. After many years of developing young minds, he retired in 1993 to his Ranch, near Rye Patch until his passing.
Bud is survived by Ruth, his wife of 64 years, his sister Gen, 8 children, 27 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.
It is said that a man can be measured by the number of lives he has touched in his lifetime. It would be impossible to estimate the countless number of lives he touched as a teacher, coach, friend, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Those of us that were blessed to know him will miss him greatly, we also know with certainty that Bud Brooks, with all his work done has left the world a better place.
There will be a celebration of his life on Sunday 20, 2015 in Virginia City from 11:00 to 3:00 at Miners Park. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you make a donation to the Lowry High School wrestling program, c/o John Brooks at LHS 5375 Kluncy Canyon Rd Winnemucca, NV 89445, and/or the Pershing County High School wrestling program, c/o Tom Brooks at PCHS Box 990 Lovelock, NV 89419.
