Calling all youth artists in Lander County and on the Yomba Reservation, grab those colored pencils and markers because the Austin Lions Club is hosting its first Youth Painting Contest. According to Debra Amens, a representative of the Austin Lions Club, they would like to make this an annual event.
“Submissions for the contest will be accepted until Aug. 22,” Amens said. “Contestants can submit their entry through email to gbillyj88@gmail.com, mailed to the Austin Lions Club P.O. Box 95, Austin, NV 89310 and in person at the Austin Fly-in.”
According to Amens, the rules are as follow: contestants must be 18 years old or younger and residents of Lander County or the Yomba Reservation. The design must be submitted on an 8-by-11 piece of paper. Contestants must include their address and contact information.
The winning design, selected by the members of the Austin Lions Club, must be painted as a mural on the Austin Youth Center before June 18, 2016, for the $250 cash prize to be awarded, Amens said. Painting supplies for the mural will be supplied by the Austin Lions Club.
The winning entry will be painted on the side of the Austin Youth Center.
“It will be one of the first things seen when driving into Austin,” Amens said. “It is a great way to have art showcased for years to come.”
