High school football teams in Nevada have been practicing for the last week and half and now its time for the rest of fall sports to jump in.
Volleyball, soccer, girls gtolf and boys and girls cross country are all underway in Humboldt County and the rest of Nevada.
The Lowry High School football team will see the first action when the freshmen, junior varsity and varsity squads host Elko in a scrimmage on Saturday at the high school at 10 a.m.
The Buckaroos will not play a 10th game this season, with the regular season starting in the first week of September. The freshmen will host Fernley on Thursday, Sept. 3, at 5 p.m. and the JV and varsity teams hit the field on Friday, Sept. 4, at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
This year’s Homecoming game is Friday, Oct. 2, against Dayton.
The Lowry volleyball team will look to go one step further is fall, which would put the Lady Bucks in the state tournament.
Lowry begins its season with a pair of tournaments in Yerington on Aug. 28-29 and at the High Sierra Invitational in Reno on Sept. 4-5. The Lady Bucks start Division I-A North play on Thursday, Sept. 10 at Churchill County and they make their home debut on Friday, Sept. 11 against Fernley.
The playoff structure has changed this year, with the top six teams qualifying for the regional championships, which will take place Nov. 6-7 in Truckee. The top two teams in the regular season standings receive byes on the first day of the tournament.
The state championships will be held Nov. 13-14 in Las Vegas.
The freshmen and JV teams start their season on Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Truckee tournament.
The Lowry varsity boys and girls soccer teams begin their run to the playoffs with the Spring Creek Invitational on Sept. 4-5. The Lady Bucks make their home debut on Wednesday, Sept. 9, and the boys will be at home for the first time on Saturday, Sept. 12.
The boys and girls are at opposite sites during the Division I-A schedule. As it was the case in volleyball, six teams will reach the regional championships this season. The tournament will be held in Elko, with first round action on Thursday, Nov. 5. The semifinals take place Friday, Nov. 6, and the championship games will take place Saturday, Nov. 7.
The state championships are Nov. 13-14 at a site to be determined.
The Lowry girls golf team starts its season on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at Ruby View Golf Course in Elko. Teams will spend the night and move over to Spring Creek on Thursday, Sept. 3. The Lady Bucks will host the Division I-A North on Thursday, Oct. 8.
There is no regional championship, as the top three teams in the regular season standings advance to the state tournament, which will be held Oct. 21-22 in Boulder City.
The Lowry cross country team will host its annual meet on Friday, Oct. 9. The regional championships are set for Saturday, Oct. 31, at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno. A week later, Rancho San Rafael will host the state championships on Saturday, Nov. 7.
Fall sports is underway at McDermitt High School as well. The Bulldogs’ football team is tentatively set to host Pyramid Lake on Friday, Sept. 5, and the volleyball team will start out with Round Mountain in McDermitt.
The top two teams in the Division IV East and West in football advance to the state championships. The top four teams in the Division IV East and West qualify for the eight-team regional championship on Nov. 6-7 in western Nevada.
