Kathy Swett, a long time resident of Winnemucca, passed away on July 18, 2015, following a short illness. Kathy was 71 years old, born on April 23, 1944.
After Kathy lost her best friend and husband, Alvin Swett in May 2004, she decided she needed to find a new direction in her life. She decided to join our local Hospice. She loved the idea of raising money to help fund Hospice. One day she decided that she wanted to do more for Hospice. She wanted to open a thrift store. Kathy is the founder of the Frugal Flamingo. We are all very proud of her.
Today the Frugal Flamingo is thriving, it has relocated to another location due to how much it has grown. Hospice helps so many folks in our community. Kathy put her heart and soul into making the thrift store a success.
Kathy is preceded in death by her best friend/husband Alvin Swett and her parents Anne Sprenger and Joseph Gormely.
She is survived by her daughters Julie Silva, husband Eric Silva, Jackie Gallio, husband Greg Gallio, and Carrie Hughes Hansen, husband Ed Hansen, her 6 step-children, Christine Guisti, Sherrylynn Shaffer, Alan, Alfred, Larry and Terry Swett, her grandchildren, Michael R. Timothy Wendy Chavez, Gregory Chavez, Mark Hansen and numerous other grandchildren, three great grandchildren. Zoie and Addi Timothy and Thomas Chavez.
RIP Mom, we love you!
At Kathy’s request, no services are planned.
