Elite Basketball traveled to Sacramento, Calif., this past weekend to compete in a JamOnIt AAU basketball tournament and took first place in the JV division.
This is the first AAU tournament championship that the team has won in three years of competing in travel tournaments. There were seven teams in the JV division and Elite went 3-0, winning their games by margins of 14, 25, and 12 points.
Team Elite features a core of players from Battle Mountain including: Miles Piramide, Chris Figueroa, Sergio and Danny Diaz and Sadonte Johnson. Breven Engelson also plays, but was in a tournament in Las Vegas.
The team also has players from West Wendover and Elko. Piramide and Figueroa set the tone for the team, switching off point guard duties and running the offense.
“It gives the offense a different tempo,” Figueroa said. “Miles likes to play fast, and I like to slow things down, and it forces the defense to constantly guess what we’re going to do.”
The team has a few more tournaments they will compete in in the upcoming weeks.
