The Battle Mountain High School boys golf team is hitting its stride at just the right time.
The Longhorns won their second tournament in a row, shooting a 426 last Thursday at Chimney Rock Golf Course in Wells. White Pine was second at 429 and Wells was third on its home course at 463. Elko JV (465) and Spring Creek JV (479) were fourth and fifth, respectively.
White Pine’s Collin Young was the low medalist at 74, while brother Chris Young was second at 76. Battle Mountain’s Toliver Rogers (78) and Sean Peasnall (79) were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Braeden Crotteau was eighth with a round of 83, Parker Rochester shot 91 and Alan Rangel (95) and Kort Beaver (110) rounded out the scores for the Longhorns.
Battle Mountain closes out the regular season this week at Edgewood Tahoe. The Longhorns will get a look at schools from the west side of the state in Division III before the regional tournament.
The Division III North Regional Championships takes place Wednesday at Ruby View Golf Course in Elko. The top three teams and top five individuals on non-qualifying teams advance to the state championships.
The Division III State Championships will take place Monday, May 11, and Tuesday, May 12, at the Incline Village Championship Course.
“It was good to see Sean and Toliver in the 70s,” said BMHS coach Roger Wallock. “We are going to need that come the regional tournament. Parker is back from shoulder surgery and he played pretty well for only a limited amount of practice time. It will be interesting to see the teams from the west this weekend at Edgewood so we can gauge where we stand against them.”
