Battle Mountain softball and baseball teams return to action after one-week break

Squads travel to Silver Stage this weekend

After taking spring break off last week, the Battle Mountain High School baseball and softball teams return to action this weekend on the road.

The Longhorn baseball team, who currently sits in second place in the Division III North will take on Silver Stage in a three-game series, starting Friday at 4 p.m. A doubleheader will follow Saturday at 11 a.m.

The Nighthawks are currently winless in league play at 0-9, while the Longhorns are 8-1. Pershing County leads the Division III North at 11-1 and is off this weekend. If Battle Mountain can sweep Silver Stage, it will tie Pershing County for the league lead.

The top spot for the Division III North will take place next week as Battle Mountain and Pershing County play each other. The first game is Wednesday, April 22, in Lovelock. The two schools play a doubleheader in Battle Mountain on Saturday, April 25.

The Division III North Regional Championships take place May 8-9 in Lovelock, with the top four teams in the regular season standings advancing to the tournament.

The Battle Mountain softball team will look to stay in playoff contention, traveling to Silver Stage as well this weekend. Starting times are same as the baseball team. The Nighthawks are toward the bottom of the league standings and the Lady Longhorns already beat them 20-1 earlier in the season in Lovelock.

Battle Mountain is fourth in the league standings at 4-5. Pershing County leads with a perfect 12-0 record, Yerington (6-2) is second and West Wendover is third. Yerington and West Wendover hold the tiebreakers over the Lady Longhorns.
Battle Mountain takes on Pershing County next week, traveling to Lovelock on Wednesday, April 22, for a 4 p.m. first pitch.

The series moves to Battle Mountain on Saturday, April 25, for two games starting at 11 a.m.

The Lady Longhorns beat the Lady Mustangs twice this year in a preseason tournament, as Battle Mountain won the Lovelock Invitational in March.

Both the baseball and softball teams end the regular season in Incline on May 1-2.
