The Lowry High School wrestling team won its sixth consecutive Division I-A North championship on Saturday, topping Churchill County by 94.50 points at Sparks High School.
The Buckaroos won the title with 277.50 points. Spring Creek was third with 181 points and Elko and Fernley rounded out the top five with 140 and 136 points, respectively.
Lowry qualified 13 of its 17 grapplers for the state tournament, which will take place Saturday at the Star of the Desert Arena in Primm.
The Buckaroos had the most individual champions at the regional tournament with nine wrestlers in the finals. The seven champions were Trase Bell at 106 pounds, Kevin Blanco (120), Eric Brooks (132), Brandon Okuma (152), Beau Billingsley (170), Tytin Johnson (195) and Luis Cardenas (285).
Iggy Medina (113) and Nate Nelson (126) finished second. Three other Buckaroos - Gabe Molina (138), Jed Johnson (182) and Anthony Hummel (220) - were third, giving Lowry 12 finishers in the top three. Shaun Mentaberry placed fourth at 160 pounds.
The NIAA State Wrestling Championship gets underway Saturday at 8 a.m. in Primm.
