WINNEMUCCA - Due to conflicting statements from witnesses, the Winnemucca Police Department will submit its report on a dog bite to the Humboldt County District Attorney's Office for review.

The WPD responded to the report of a dog bite in the area of Sant Lane on the evening of Jan. 30. This response was at the request of the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office due to a conflict of interest.

Officer Jeff Casalez responded to Humboldt General Hospital and met with the witnesses. A 5-year-old female victim had a minor injury to her arm which she said was caused by a dog bite, according to a WPD press release. The victim and her parents said the victim had been bitten by Zyla, who is a law enforcement drug detection dog handled by Sgt. Lee Dove of the sheriff's office.
