WINNEMUCCA - The Winnemucca Junior High School seventh- and eighth-grade girls basketball teams get their seasons underway on Saturday, Sept. 8, when they travel to Fernley for a tournament.
Winnemucca will play its home opener on Thursday, Sept. 13, against Fallon at 3 p.m. The Warriors are scheduled to host Eagle Valley and Pershing County Middle School on Saturday, Sept. 15, at noon. The seventh grade squad will play at Lowry High School and the eighth graders at WJHS.
Winnemucca will be at home on two other occasions, hosting Carson and Pershing County on Friday, Sept. 28, at 3 p.m. and the Tri-County League comes to town on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 9 a.m.
The Warriors also have road trips to Fallon on Tuesday, Oct. 2, and a trip to Carson City on Friday, Oct. 5, to play Carson and Eagle Valley.
The Tri-County Championship will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6, in Lovelock starting at 10 a.m.
The eighth-grade team is coached by Jack Smith and includes McKenna Jones, Brooklyn Waller, Alyssa Campbell, Kenadee Jeppsen, Audrey Snow, Olivia Silva, Brooklyn Backus, Tiana Herrera, Amaya Herrera, Hannah Hillyer, Jacy Urain, Lexi Allen and Kenadee Miller.
The seventh-grade squad is coached by Larry Renteria and includes Kepa Bengochea, Tailor West, Samantha Diaz, Hailey Hinkle, Megan Miller, Alily Kliewer, Alyssa Kuskie, Trenna Millikan, Brittany Jacaway, Bailey Sapien, Tauni Rolando, Shelby Garrison and Whitney Willey.
