WJHS 7th-grade grapplers claim Tah-Neva title

The Winnemucca Junior High School wrestling teams closed out their season on a high note at the Tah-Neva championships in Fallon on March 29.

The Warriors' seventh-grade squad claimed the team championship and Cade Bell, who wrestled at 85 pounds, was named one of the most outstanding wrestlers.

Winnemucca easily outdistanced the field with 155 points, while Pershing County was second at 118. Battle Mountain (95) was third and Douglas (85) was fourth.

Taylor Corak at 75 pounds, Bell (85), Ridge Ricketts (90) and Caleb Hinkle (95) claimed first-place honors for the seventh-grade squad.

Hunter Christiansen (70), Isaac Mori (75), Anthony Barber (100), Mateo Flores (165) and Eli Montenegro (200) were second. Jimmy Rackley (85), Seth Casalez (120) and Josiah Chapman (165) all finished third and Caleb Sanchez (135) was fourth.

The Winnemucca eighth graders finished in second place with 160 points, behind Battle Mountain, which won with 198. Carson was third with 73.

Quint Bell (125), Ryan Johnson (130), Seth Hornbarger (135) and Cade Billingsley (150) were the individual champions on the eighth-grade side.

G.W. Coleman (120) and Victor Rosas (140) were second and Cole Smith (85), Dylan Kaloske (110), Colton DeLaMora (115), Lorenzo Mattson (135), Noa Walker (135) and Joseph Peterson (150) were third. JJ Backus (90) placed fourth.[[In-content Ad]]
