WINNEMUCCA - The 2013-14 winter sports season is underway with games beginning next weekend for the Lowry High School boys basketball team.
The Buckaroos will host Galena in a scrimmage on Wednesday starting at noon. The varsity and junior varsity teams will play in the old gym, while the freshmen will take on the Grizzlies in the new gym at the high school.
The action gets underway for real on Saturday, Nov. 30, when the Lowry boys take on Reno High School. The freshmen start at 2 p.m., the JV at 3:30 p.m. and varsity at 5 p.m.
The varsity boys team moves on to Las Vegas from Dec. 5 - 7 for the 20-team Legacy Tournament that features schools from Nevada, California, Canada and Australia.
In that same weekend, the Lowry freshmen and junior varsity boys will be at Damonte Ranch in Reno for a three-day tournament.
The Lowry girls basketball teams will take to the floor a week later than the boys, with the varsity team traveling to Reno for the High Sierra Classic from Dec. 5 - 7.
The junior varsity team will be in Lovelock for the Pershing County tournament on Friday, Dec. 6, and Saturday, Dec. 7. The Lady Bucks are tentatively set to play Yerington on Friday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m. Lowry will take on Silver Stage at noon on Saturday, Dec. 7, and Pershing County at 4 p.m.
The freshmen squad begins its season on Friday, Dec. 13, and Saturday, Dec. 14 in Battle Mountain.
The Lowry wrestling team begins its run for a sixth consecutive state championship in Fallon on Friday, Dec. 6, and Saturday, Dec. 7. The Buckaroos make their home debut on Friday, Dec. 13, and Saturday, Dec. 14, with the Cody Louk Invitational at the Winnemucca Event Center.
The McDermitt High School basketball teams begin their season on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at Jordan Valley, Ore. The girls tip off at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow. The Bulldogs make their home debut on Tuesday, Dec,. 17, against Crane, Ore.
