WINNEMUCCA - This wasn't a Sunday boating excursion even though the young men are nicely dressed. The two men in the front of the boat had created a business out of adversity.
Lee Case, one partner, in front manning the oars, and Vic Giroux, the other in back, ready to step in when Lee wore out from the constant rowing. They provided a necessary service. The only crossing that linked both sides of town, Winnemucca's bridge, had washed out in 1910. They rowed people back and forth for a fee and had steady trade until the bridge was rebuilt.
Hard to imagine the necessity for a water taxi in Winnemucca, but here's the proof!
