LAS VEGAS - Montsdarrat Wadsworth, a mother of 10 children from Winnemucca, will be named 2013 Nevada Young Mother at the annual Nevada Mother of the Year brunch on Saturday, May 11, at 10 a.m. in Las Vegas.
Also being honored is the 2013 Nevada Mother of the Year, Zan Peterson Hyer from Las Vegas, along with five "Community Mothers of Honor."
American Mothers, Inc. (AMI) is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Washington, D.C., and is dedicated to honoring motherhood while offering support to mothers nationwide. It is the official sponsor of Mother's Day and Mother of the Year.
Wadsworth was born in Salt Lake City to Isamare and Peter Ventura. At only 15 years old, Wadsworth attended Ricks College where she graduated with an associates degree in crop and soil science. She and her husband, Joseph Wadsworth, have 10 children, whom she homeschools. They run an alfalfa farm.
Though she is involved in various church and community service, Wadsworth says that the most service she gives in a day is that of being a mother.
"Tending to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of children can be physically, emotionally, and spiritually exhausting," she says. "But it is also the most rewarding work I have ever done. Motherhood is my identity. I have found who I really am in serving my family."
AMI honors a select few mothers annually who represent the highest qualities of motherhood and who have had a profound impact on their children's lives and the lives of other parents, children, and the community.
Each state's "Mother of the Year" is chosen from nominated women age 45-plus and the state's "Young Mother" is chosen from nominated women with children under the age of 18.
Wadsworth will represent Nevada at American Mothers Inc. 78th annual national convention to be held in April in New York. A "National Mother of the Year" and a "National Young Mother" is chosen from among state mothers. Several Nevada mothers have received the national title. Honored mothers will represent the organization by serving as a mentor to other mothers and by being an example to the community.
