Winnemucca Rural Fire stretches resources for Dec. 10 incidents

WINNEMUCCA - The Winnemucca Rural Fire Department stretched its resources Dec. 10 after being dispatched to three different fires in a short period of time.

Chief Ron Schrempp reported that the first fire occurred on Stratus and involved a self-cleaning oven that started kitchen cabinets on fire and also burned into the attic. He stated that fire damage was contained to the kitchen.

The second incident occurred on Sant Lane and involved a controlled burn that went out of control. Schrempp said that no structures were affected but the fire burned about 10 acres.

The third fire occurred on Rainbow and was also an out-of-control controlled burn that burned about two acres and no structures.

"We used most of the trucks because they (fires) happened all at once," Schrempp said. "We even used R-20 which was decked with Christmas tree lights for the Parade of Lights later that day. Kind of unusual to see a brush truck with Christmas lights going through the sagebrush putting out fire. The sagebrush wasn't tall enough to pull the lights off!"
