Two of Winnemucca's finest were honored at the city council meeting last Tuesday, Aug. 5. Mayor Di An Putnam presented a five-year service award to Officer Chad Farstveet. Putnam commended Farstveet on his attitude and abilities, and said it was a pleasure to know Farstveet and to work with him.
"I hope the next time, it's a 25-year award," said Putnam. Farstveet said it seemed just like yesterday that he started working at the WPD, and he thanked the mayor and council for the award.
Officer Brant Manley, police-paramedic, was awarded a life-saving medal which was presented by Police Chief Eric Silva and Chief Pat Songer, Humboldt General Hospital EMS Rescue. Songer said on June 13, Manley responded to a medical emergency in which a woman was suffering from respiratory distress. Manley's quick assessment and treatment of the patient resulted in a positive outcome for her, mainly her life was saved.
"HGH EMS Rescue would like to thank Officer Manley for the outstanding manner in which he performed his duties on the scene of this call," said Songer. Songer also expressed appreciation of the partnership between the police department and HGH EMS Rescue.
In a later interview, Manley said it felt good to know that his paramedic training had a direct impact on someone's life. He said that he receives one or two medical calls per shift when he is on duty. This particular medical emergency was different, he said, because the woman stopped breathing within 30 seconds of him walking through the door. Manley provided respirations for the patient until the HGH ambulance arrived about four or five minutes later.[[In-content Ad]]
