WINNEMUCCA - The month of December has finally arrived and the company Christmas party is just around the corner. With that in mind, the Winnemucca Police Department wanted to remind local citizens to celebrate the holiday safely. With all the fun and festivities, many hosts still forget that following a few simple guidelines will make their celebration safer and more enjoyable for them and their guests. If you are planning a holiday party, consider the following;
• If you are serving alcohol ensure that car keys are collected from guests and that designated drivers have been lined up ahead of time.
• Always serve food if alcohol is being offered.
• Offer a variety of non-alcoholic drinks for your guests that don't drink.
If you plan to attend a party where alcohol will be served, the following tips may also prove useful:
• Never drink and drive! Use the services of a designated driver or taxi service.
• Never drink on an empty stomach and never drink to excess. Know when to say enough.
• Remember the "One - To - One" rule. Generally speaking, for every alcoholic drink you consume, plan on at least an hour for that drink to leave your system before driving.
• Don't be afraid to refuse alcohol if you don't want to drink.
The holiday season can be a time of fun for everyone, but an arrest for DUI isn't fun for anyone! Don't take the risk! Use a designated driver or take a taxi. Celebrate the season, but do so safely and sanely.
