Winnemucca Junior High School seventh-grade grapplers claim Tah-Neva title

The Winnemucca Junior High School wrestling teams closed out their season on a high note at the Tah-Neva championships in Fallon on Saturday.

The Warriors' seventh-grade squad claimed the team championship and Cade Bell, who wrestled at 95 pounds, was named one of the most outstanding wrestlers.

Winnemucca easily outdistanced the field with 151 points, while Yerington was second at 130. Battle Mountain (125) was third and Fernley (100.50) was fourth.

Taylor Corak, at 85 pounds, and Bell (95), claimed first-place honors for the seventh-grade squad.

Isaac Mori (80), Isiah Blanco (100) and Anthony Peterson (125) were second and Jonathan Green (120) was third.

J.J. Backus (105), Jeremiah Good (135) and Kole Mattson (165) each placed fourth.

The Winnemucca eighth graders finished in second place with 116 points, behind Battle Mountain, which won with 145. Douglas was third with 105.50 and Pershing County (88.50) was fourth.

Hunter Christiansen (85), Jimmy Rackley (95), Ridge Ricketts (100) and Anthony Barber (125) all won individual titles.

Caleb Hinkle (105) was second, Caleb Sanchez (130) placed third and Nerio Ceballos (140) and Mateo Flores (175) each placed fourth,

"The kids made great gains during the short season and were able to win the seventh-grade title and took seventh in eighth grade," said WJHS coach John Brooks.[[In-content Ad]]
