WINNEMUCCA - A new year has begun, so I thought it was time to update the community on the Winnemucca FFA Chapter happenings. We have been a very busy group of students. Since the last time I updated the community, our chapter has been doing so much. Our chapter has been working on community service to give back to the community for all it does for us. A service we have been providing is assisting the senior citizens of the community with yard work and other outdoor activities that they may need help with. Students are always willing to help if anybody needs it. We also are putting on a warmth drive at our school where we collect hats, gloves and scarves. These items will be given to the less fortunate around town.
The FFA Chapter has also been participating in a variety of fundraisers. We are selling jerky throughout the year to help individuals pay for their trips to competitions or conferences. We are also currently selling cookie dough. We have a plentiful amount, if you are interested please give us a call.
The Winnemucca FFA has been having a great year so far and we are looking forward to the rest of the year. Some upcoming events are a leadership conference, competition and our scholarship dinner. The Winter Leadership Conference, which will be held here in Winnemucca, will be Feb. 6 - 7. This is a great time to see all our friends and start the year with learning of leadership skills. The upcoming competition is Zone in Elko on March 2. This is the first competition of the year and a good practice for state which will be held March 20 - 24. Last but not least is the FFA Alumni Scholarship Dinner on Feb. 25. The members of our chapter and our alumni association put this dinner on every year. It is a steak dinner, raffle and auctions. The money raised will be given as scholarships to the seniors of the chapter, as well as supporting a variety of events and activities that our chapter participates in.
