Winnemucca FFA chapter attends state convention Total of 35 students represent Lowry High School

RENO - The Winnemucca FFA chapter attended the 83rd Nevada State FFA Convention March 20 - 24 at the University of Nevada, Reno.

A total of 35 students represented Lowry High School in the following Career Development Events: Ag Issues, Ag Mechanics, Marketing Plan, Floriculture, Milk Products and Processing, Meats Evaluation, Horse Judging, Environmental and Natural Resources, Creed Speaking and Extemporaneous Speaking.

Lowry students produced outstanding results in the Career Development Events. The Agricultural Mechanics team consisting of Quinn Norcutt, Josh Dufurrena, Ryan Nelson and Mark Linnell took top honors, placing first.

These students secured high individual placings as well, with Quinn Norcutt being 1st high individual, Josh Dufurrena 2nd high individual and Ryan Nelson 4th high individual. The contest consisted of Arc Welding, Wire Feed Welding, Oxy-fuel Cutting, Written Test and Electrical.

The Agricultural Mechanics team will be representing Nevada at nationals in Indianapolis this October.

The Agricultural Issues team consisting of Sarah Custer, Jessica Rackley, Ashley Bressem, Meghan Brennan and Dee Anna Pasquale placed second overall. They presented the Humboldt Landfill controversy.

All of the Winnemucca CDE teams received a top 10 finish.

The following are local students that received awards in the Proficiency areas:

Diversified Livestock: Ashley Buckingham, Silver; Swine Entre: Sarah Custer, Silver; Swine Placement: Ashley Bressen, Bronze; Sheep Production: Jessica Partee, Gold; Equine Entre: DeeAnna Pasquale, Bronze; Equine Placement: Meghan Brenna, Bronze.

Winnemucca FFA received the Winning Scrap Book Award. Ashley Bressem was the creator of the scrapbook. Sarah Custer received the prestigious honor of the State FFA Degree.

Students also attended a variety of Leadership Workshops and participated in the Service Learning Project.

Winnemucca FFA students and advisors Rebecca Hill and Jennifer Partee would like to thank all those that helped make this such a great year for the students.
