IMLAY - The Winnemucca Dust Bunnies 4-H Club recently donated $250 to Safe Haven Rescue Zoo. Their donation will go directly to the care of the rescued animals, said Safe Haven Executive Director Lynda Sugasa.

The club raised the money throughout the year by selling pizzas and by selling breakfast burritos at the Tri-County Fair, said Sharon Barton, Humboldt County 4-H program manager/volunteer and events specialist.

There are 20 members of the Dust Bunnies 4-H Club ranging in ages from 5 to 19, said Barton. Club members are studying all about rabbits, she said.

In addition to raising money for Safe Haven, the group will also be donating to other organizations, said Barton.

In recent Safe Haven news, the rescued cougar, Max, from Texas, is doing great, said Sugasa. Volunteer Erin Inkel, from Newmont, and Brittany Shober on their days off came to help with many of Safe Haven's projects, including helping with the solar expansion as well as constructing a new multi-level climbing platform for the recently rescued African serval, Jasper. Max's new climbing platform was completed on Oct. 4, said Sugasa.

Safe Haven is currently selling their 2012 calendars for $15 each (which includes shipping as a gift). The calendar features beautiful glossy pictures each month of the resident animals as well as their stories. These are great Christmas gifts. All proceeds from the calendar sales go directly to the care of the animals, said Sugasa.

To order a calendar, send an e-mail to safehavenwildlife1@yahoo.com or send a check to: Safe Haven Rescue Zoo, P.O. Box 184, Imlay, NV 89418. If it's for a gift, please include the recipient's name, address and who is providing the gift. A gift card will be included.

Safe Haven will also be hosting a wine and dessert tasting event on May 22 at the Art Source Gallery (9748 S. Virginia St.) in Reno. Special room rates are available at the Atlantis the night of the event for Safe Haven attendees. There will also be a raffle and wildlife art for sale with proceeds benefiting Safe Haven.

In 2012, Safe Haven will be available for on-site parties, meetings and corporate events.
