WINNEMUCCA - McDermitt High School's Staheli Wilkinson was named the Division IV girls basketball player East Co-Player of the Year as selected by the league's six coaches.
Wilkinson, who became the second-leading assist leader in Nevada history, averaged 12.9 points, 8.7 assists and 6.0 rebounds in her senior season with the Lady Bulldogs.
McDermitt finished the year at 15-8 overall and 7-3 in the Division IV East. The Lady Bulldogs reached the Division IV regional semifinals, before losing 60-53 against Wells in late February.
Eureka's Natalie Norcutt joined her as the Co-Player of the Year, as the junior helped the Vandals to their first state championship since 1987 when they were part of the B League. Norcutt played for the Lowry JV team in her freshman season, before moving to Eureka at the start of her sophomore year in high school.
Eureka's Ken Fujii, Jackpot's Justin Martinez and Wells' Clay Fitch were named the Co-Coaches of the Year. Owyhee earned the Sportsmanship Award.
McDermitt's Sharon Sherburn joined Wilkinson and Norcutt on the first team, along with Wells' twin sisters Emily Pengelly and Ericka Pengally and Eureka's Melissa Damelle.
McDermitt freshman Andrea Smart was named to the second team. She was joined by Wells' Dakota Adkins and Tia Lipeheke, Eureka's Beth Damelle and Jackpot's Mariela Cortes and Marissa Garrett.
Lydia Northrup, also a freshman for the Lady Bulldogs, was picked for the honorable mention team. Other players on the honorable mention team included Jackpot's Zonia Avila, Carlin's Mariah Meshefski and Renea Baum, Owyhee's Mariah Mouse and Eureka's Katie Porter and Shara Green.
