WINNEMUCCA - The poster for Wildfire Awareness Week is also part of the instructional materials for the "Reduce the Fuel - Reduce the Risk" slogan that represents this year's wildfire reduction education campaign.
Each of the people pictured on the poster is a Nevadan and each is depicting fire suppression work that can be done by residents to reduce fire danger and protect their home or business form wildfire property damage.
Nevada residents on the poster (left to right) are:
Randy Emm, pictured with a chainsaw, who is the program coordinator with Nevada's federally recognized tribal extension program and a resident of Schurz in Mineral County.
Yolanda Ortega-Gammill, pictured with the weed whacker, is a homeowner who was evacuated during Washoe County's Caughlin Fire in 2011.
Elwood Miller, with the wheelbarrow, is a University of Nevada, Reno faculty emeritus and former executive director of the Nevada Fire Safe Council.
Maureen Smith, with the sprayer, is a volunteer firefighter, rancher and owner of Las Flores Cattle in Paradise Valley in Humboldt County.
Janet Ouren, with the rake, is a homeowner actively involved with her community homeowner's association and updating the Community Wildfire Protection Plan for the Arrowcreek community in Washoe County.
Peg, the goat, is an employee of Goat Grazers. She and her co-workers efforts help reduce the wildfire threat around homes and communities.
Vince Thomas, with the loppers, is a goat rancher and owner of Goat Grazers. He's also a firefighter with Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District in Washoe County.
Wildfire Awareness Week is a federal-state-county partnership, and each participating county passed a resolution supporting the educational - motivational program.
