Wilbur L. Smith

Wilbur L. Smith, 78, of Winnemucca passed away Friday July 15, 2011 at the Humboldt General Hospital. He was born on Dec. 12, 1932 in Grand Valley, Colo., to Kenneth and LaVerne (Karnes) Smith. He grew up in Colorado and served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1953. He has lived the last 48 years in Winnemucca. He worked as a truck driver and a diesel mechanic. He built and operated Northern Nevada Truck Repair in Winnemucca and was known by many as “the best trouble shooting diesel mechanic in the west”. Wilbur attended the Community Bible Church in Winnemucca. He enjoyed playing pool, boating, camping and he loved his Rottweiler dogs.

He is survived by a daughter, Pamela Jones; grandchildren, Joshua, Wesley and Breanna and his brothers and sisters, Norman Smith, Marvin Smith, Stanley Smith, Shirley Elaine Plumb and Carolyn Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lucille.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at the Albertson Funeral Home in Winnemucca. The family would like to thank the staff of Humboldt General Hospital and the employees of Harmony Manor where Wilbur lived for the past two and a half years. He loved them all.
