Why the low graduation rate in Humboldt County?

Editor:

I recently read an article in the Reno Gazette-Journal regarding our graduation rates in Nevada by county. Humboldt County's four-year adjusted cohort rate is 63.49 percent, according to information recently released by the Nevada Department of Education. Our neighbor Pershing County has a graduation rate of 80.36 percent and Lander County has a graduation rate of 80.85 percent. Elko County has a graduation rate of 72.03 percent. Even White Pine County has a higher graduation rate of 71.43 percent.

I would like to challenge parents in the Humboldt County School District to contact their school board members and administration to answer the question of why we have such a low graduation rate.
