Why Relay?

Letters to the Editor

Editor,

I RELAY because I am a two-time cancer survivor. I RELAY because I have lost family members to cancer. I RELAY for all those individuals that are still fighting cancer.

In 2005 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and in 2010 I was diagnosed with uterine cancer. Luckily, both were caught in the early stages and, as of today, I have been four years cancer free.

As a cancer survivor, I would like to invite the community to come experience the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life Event here in Winnemucca. The event opens Saturday, Aug. 9 at 10 a.m. with the Survivor Lap. At 6 p.m. Saturday night we will be having our survivor ceremony with dinner to follow for our survivors and caregivers.

So please join me and many other relayers to help raise dollars to go towards research, education, advocacy and service for this dreadful disease. It will be an experience you will never forget.
