WINNEMUCCA - The slogan, "The only thing soft about softball is the ball" held true on Saturday, April 14, here in Winnemucca.
Though there was rain along with a little hail, girls ranging from 5 to 14 showed up to kick of the 2012 softball season.
The field was full of Grasshoppers, Sand Gnats, Bees, Bats, RockHounds, Mudcats, Rattlers, Thunder, River Cats, Mud Hens, Muckdogs and Storm. Roxy the Coca-Cola Polar Bear even joined the ceremonies and threw out the first pitch to start the softball season.
WGFA is excited to report that there are more than 130 girls playing ball this season and look forward to having a great season. Games take place Monday through Friday, with game times of 5:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. On Thursday evenings, Battle Mountain's softball team travels down to play against WGFA's 14U teams.
The community is invited to come down, have a hot dog and watch a game of softball.
